Cost of Living Payments

This autumn, the government is supporting households with the cost of keeping their homes warm. This includes taking an average of £150 off energy bills from April. More information.

Energy Price Cap

From 1 July to 30 September 2026, the price cap will be £1,862 per year for a typical household using gas and electricity and paying by Direct Debit.

Average Electricity charges - 26.11 pence per kWh, 57.19 pence daily standing charge.

Average Gas charges - 7.33 pence per kWh, 29.04 pence daily standing charge.

This has gone up by 13% compared to the last price cap period. More information.

Crisis and Resilience Fund

(1 April 2026 – 31 March 2029)

From April 2026, households may be able to access support through the Crisis and Resilience Fund, delivered by local councils.

This support may help residents struggling to afford essential costs such as:

Energy and water bills
Food
Essential household items
Housing costs

VAT relief for energy saving materials

If you’re looking to install energy saving materials such as insulation or solar panels, then you won’t have to pay any VAT for the next five years. This will help households improve energy efficiency while keeping heating bills down.
