Scottish resident “over the moon” after getting help from LEAP

Energy Support

LEAP support can make a real difference when energy bills and old appliances are putting pressure on your household.

In Scotland, the first step is now a free LEAP energy advice call.

Depending on your situation, LEAP may be able to help with things like fuel vouchers, or home visits in eligible regions from May 2026.

Mrs Ward is a retired Glasgow resident, living alone on a low income and disability benefits. She came to our attention because she was feeling the impact of rising energy costs, especially because of older, energy-hungry kitchen appliances. That’s when our LEAP Energy Advisors got to work.

How did LEAP help Mrs Ward?

Mrs Ward’s daughter first heard about LEAP through her workplace and applied on her mother’s behalf. That decision led to practical support that helped make Mrs Ward’s home feel warmer and easier to manage.

“Mum is over the moon and is so happy with everything. Thank you for such a great service!”

A LEAP Home Energy Advisor visited her at home, gave energy-saving advice, fitted low-energy LED lightbulbs and installed radiator panels to help reflect heat back into the room.

LEAP also arranged a brand-new energy-efficient washing machine and an air fryer for Mrs Ward, helping replace older appliances that were costing more to run. Her new washing machine was delivered and installed; the old one was taken away.

Mrs Ward said the help she received made her home warmer and helped her get her energy bills under control:

“The service provided was excellent. I was kept informed every step of the way. The delivery of the new washing machine was carried out fast and efficiently by friendly professionals that went to great lengths to make sure I was happy with everything. I’d highly recommend applying to LEAP if you meet the criteria.”

Choose energy advice that makes a real difference

Mrs Ward’s case is a strong example of how the right support at the right time can ease pressure on a household. It also shows that energy advice is not just about giving general tips; it can be about finding practical steps that help someone feel warmer, more in control and less overwhelmed.

That still matters now. Even when wider energy costs change, many households are still struggling with the day-to-day reality of bills, meter top-ups and keeping their homes comfortable. LEAP focuses on helping people understand what support is actually available now, in plain English, and what first step to take.

What support does LEAP offer in Scotland now?

Today, the starting point for support in Scotland is a free LEAP energy advice call. This is the first step whether you’re worried about bills, want to understand your tariff, are struggling to top up a prepayment meter, or want to know what other help may be available.

During the call, a trained advisor can help you understand your bills, check whether you may be eligible for emergency support and look at referrals for wider money or debt advice where appropriate.

Save up to £150 now if you live in Scotland

For eligible households on prepayment meters in Scotland, LEAP may also be able to issue fuel vouchers worth up to £150 through its Financial Assistance Scheme. These are aimed at households in a genuine fuel crisis who cannot afford to top up.

From May 2026, LEAP home visits will be available in eligible Scottish regions, where a Home Energy Advisor may be able to fit simple energy-saving measures such as draught-proofing, LED bulbs, radiator panels and standby saver plugs.

Mrs Ward’s story is a reminder that support can start with one conversation. While every household’s circumstances are different, LEAP is there to help people understand what options they have and what practical steps might make life a bit easier.
